Making your own almond milk at home

You can make your own almond milk at home and avoid many of the additives that are present in commercially produced almond milk.

Items you will need to make your own almond milk
  • 1 cup fresh raw almonds
  • 3 cups of filtered water (plus more for soaking)
  • Nut milk bag
  • Large bowl
  • Pitcher or other container
  • Colander
  • Blender
  • Mason jar
Directions
  1. Soak the almonds overnight in enough water to cover them in a mason jar or comparable container at room temperature
  2. In the morning, drain the soaked almonds and place them in the blender with the 3 cups of filtered water
  3. Blend the almond mixture thoroughly
  4. Hold the nut milk bag over the center of the large bowl
  5. Pour about a third of the blended almond mixture into the bag and squeeze with your hands
  6. The bowl will begin to fill up with almond milk and you will see almond pulp remaining in the bag
  7. Remove the pulp from the bag* and continue the process until all of the blended mixture has been turned into almond milk
  8. Refrigerate the almond milk and enjoy within 3-5 days
*Tip:  The almond pulp that remains after the process is nutrient rich and can be saved to use in other recipes.
